After I made the decision to leave Orange and go to the T-Mobile network I called the T-Mobile helpdesk to ask how the get my phone and ask about the contract. My questions were dealt with satisfactory by the helpdesk. Next step was ordering the phone and selecting a contract form from the T-Mobile website.

Selection of the phone was easy as this was the only reason for me to leave Orange, next step was selecting a contract. Because I do not make calls that often the 25 euro 2 year contract was enough for me, this meant paying an additional fee of 39,95 euro for the phone.

After delivery of the confirmation email I was contacted by AMP logistics who do the distribution for all of the major telephone providers here. The delivery at work was no problem. The delivery of the pone took about two days and was right on time, only problem was that the delivery guy was using an older version of Tom Tom and couldn;t find the address I was at at the moment.

Time has come to unpack the phone.. After openening the standard box that was used for delivery puposes I found the T-Mobile box.

   The looks really nice, and shows that this is a quality product packaged with care.

Opening the box revealed a clever meachinsm of an inner box opening to both sides. In one side of the box the usb cord, extra stylus and ear phones. In the other side, the power adapter, a 'leather' case and a 512mb sb card (actually it is a mini sd card with an adapter to 'normal' sd format.

As You can see in this picture the mda is placed in the center box  neatly stuffed in there with protective 'casing'. The mda was also covered in a transparent foil to offer more protection. As I took these pictures at a later date this was already removed from the device.

Now let's have a look at the device:

From left to right: The device in closed state, it can be used to make / receive calls as seen in this picture on the left hand side a speaker is placed. The next two pictures show the two modes of operation, first one the 'laptop' mode, second one can be used by turning the screen and closing the device, now the device will swictch the screen to portrait mode and is basically a normal PDA. Last picture shows the camera with just on the left of the lens the light wich can be used to get some results when making pictures in the dark. Maybe You have noticed the second camera in the second and third picture, this can be used to place video calls, sadly i will not be able to test this functionality as 3G is not available where I live.

   Next up the screen. I can be short about that, it is great. Nice contrast colors look great. I can only compare the screen against my previous phone (Orange SPV E200) and my old Compaq IPAQ 3630 PDA, but I think it is fabulous with it's resolution of 480x640, 65.536 colors and diagonal size of 9.2cm (3.6") it is ok to watch video or streaming media.

To support streaming media there is a built in wireless connection supporting up to 11Mbps (IEEE 802.11b). In addition to this the phone also supports GPRS, and UMTS. The wifi works great after You get the connection going. At first I just enable wireless and waited until the connection was made, but it didn't. Couldn't find wat was wrong initially even after looking at the wireless settings (accessed by touching menu bottom / right on the screen and selecting wireless). But the solution was 'hidden' in the bottom bar at the left side in this bar an icon is displayed (I can't make up what it is), selecting this will show a list of available wireless networks. This screen allows you to set up the connection including all encryption settings. Now I am using the phone to browse my favourite pages on the web.

The screen shown above also allows the user to enable / disable  bluetooth and also enable / disable the telephone function. Turning of the phone is not possible (only by disconnecting the battery). So when you have to go on a plane all you can do is disable all communication, this leaves you with only pda like features of the device.
